In 2011, I had started a small electrical contracting business servicing the domestic market with new house installations and property maintenance. I started off with just myself, an apprentice and a work van. I did not have any bookkeeping experience and had mostly learnt how to manage my books as I went along and would seek advice as I needed it. I started off invoicing using Microsoft Excel and manually logged the invoices into MYOB at the end of each week. I then had to email all of these invoices once created and also archive them when they were sent. This took a very long time indeed and would take up many precious hours in my office.
5 years later, my business had grown and now had 6 employees and 4 vehicles. In 2015, I met Julie at Bookkeeping Relief and explained to her that I needed to change the way I was doing things and that my current system was really setting me back. I had dealt with 2 bookkeepers prior and was not happy with their efforts. In no time at all she swapped all my accounts to Xero and because it was cloud based, I could access my invoices and any other information I wanted from anywhere and with also using any device. This meant I could invoice or quote on the spot and could also do a number of other things that I could not previously do before. It didn’t take long at all to learn the new system and I found it to be so much more user friendly than what I was using.
Julie also introduced me to Service M8, which was a job scheduling and tracking program. This was an absolute game changer for me and simply halved my admin time and really organised and simplified my job booking process. This meant that I no longer needed to use a diary and daily/weekly planners and I also didn’t need to call my guys the night before to outline tomorrow’s jobs as they all had their own login in accounts and access to their schedules. This really changed everything and gave me the ability to move forward and become a lot more efficient with my time. Both my client’s and staff love the new system, especially the automatic notification SMS that gets sent to the customer when navigating to the job.
Julie and her team are really great to deal with. They are very prompt, supportive and endlessly keep on top of everything to make sure I stay ahead. She is much more professional and knowledgeable than my previous bookkeepers and I would recommend her to everyone.
